Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp A Butterfly”: Pimp-age Commentary

The Life As Shay Report:

TDE’s Kendrick Lamar released his sophomore studio album in the wee hours of the night/morning today…or did he? Now! This is not commentary on the content of the album, after all it just came out so I think it’s crazy for someone to think they can accurately unravel an album by a true artist and conscious thinker. This is about the project’s release.

Commentary…I was excited about the album release until I caught vibes that the release could have been a mistake? TDE’s President tweeted and I quote…
“I WOULD LIKE 2 PERSONALLY THANK @Interscope FOR FUCKING UP OUR RELEASE… SOMEBODY GOTS 2 PAY 4 THIS MISTAKE !!!! #TOP”

Ok, WOW! The TPAB album was snatched from iTunes, only to be returned for download. See me, I think it’s messy, confusing and disrupt to the art and culture. Am I being too thoughtful to ponder why the album was released a week before it was due to be released…with a title like “TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY” coming from an artist like Kendrick Lamar, before even hearing the album I thought the “pimp” to be the industry and the record label. It’s one thing to have a surprise album, Beyonce and Drake, but’s a completely different thing to have a release date and get snubbed with a week early release. Where is the anticipation and excitement. TF??

Either way, the music is out and the message will be heard but I do hope that it’s not to the “pimp-age” of true artists and people that seek to uplift and encourage an entire nation. WHEW!! In the mean time you can download the album on iTunes and Spotify. I will be waiting for a hardcopy.
