The Life As Shay Report:
It looks like being a kid of the 21st Century has its highs and lows. In the case of Childish Gambino, his age makes him part of the generation brought up in the new way of technology and he is well versed in the “internet” and all things social and techythat come along with it. He even named his latest project Because the Internet…NOW it has surfaced for a second time that he has had a power struggle with his label, Glassnote Records, over the integrity and timing of releases of his music. And earlier this week looks like the “INTERNET” bug bit him once again. The label allegedly leaked the song and video for “Sweatpants” from Because the Internet. And boy is Childish Gambino an unhappy camper. He accused the label telling lies, not holding their word and even asked other labels (Def Jam and Atlantic) to buy him out of this current deal.
Some would question, when you have a label putting money in the pot and providing a platform to share your artistry is it merely a comprise that you must stomach when they decide to do as they please with your work…after all, would you have the same reach and visibility without them?
Mmmh, I am left to wonder in the case of Childish, was it a “Compromise” or was the label just straight “Telling Lies.” What do you think?
Check out the leaked video that caused a spitfire storm of brash tweets from Childish Gambino.
