The Life As Shay Report:
November 8, 2013 | Las Vegas, NV- BET Centric hosted the Soul Train Music Awards at The Orleans’ Theater on the Las Vegas Strip. I had a great time working PR for the red carpet, the experience was amazing for a music lover like me! The Soul Train Awards, as expected, brought out the legends–> I ran into Toni Braxton & Babyface, Big Daddy Kane, Ron Isley, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan…just to name a few of my favorites.
My “Red Carpet Star”was Ashanti! Pictures due no justice.
The center of the carpet was Wendy Williams‘ interview stage and the E! News station. They were choosey, only the best of the best and top celebs could snab time with those two outlets.
The eye-candy was out: Tyrese, Tank, Idris Elba, Boris Kodjoe…just for starters! The women did their thing too, Jennifer Hudson, Chrisette Michelle and Janelle Monae.
I have been to a few awards shows but this was one literally was “The Best” show thus far. As promised the performances were 100% LIVE and things ran smoothly and timely. I had the chance to peep into the soundcheck session and got excited about Wale and Tamar‘s respective performances. Tamar stole the show on the “award” aspect of things but her live performance during the actual recording was not to the best of her ability, as witnessed in soundcheck. Just being honest.
Wale’s performance was superb, set with dancing backup singers and his own smooth dance moves #NewSoul. There was a “Blue-Eyed Soul” segment of the show that was soooo good! You can not miss it!! Jon B got up there! They even had Bobby Caldwell (What You Won’t Do For Love) and he sounded EXACTLY THE SAME as he did in the 70’s when the song was released.
Keith Sweat performed with a feature by Faith Evans and had the house going crazy! K. Michelle, everyone showed up and showed out.
Tune in December 1, 2013 to Centric 8p ET/7p C for The 2013 Soul Train Music Awards. This is one to watch. P.S. You may see me in the audience!
